Carolyn Ockert-Haythe
Carolyn Ockert-Haythe has been seen on stage in numerous productions.
Broadway companies include Shrek the Musical (Swing/ Dance Captain), Pajama Game (Virginia), Wonderful Town (Swing /Asst. Dance Captain, Helen u/s), The Music Man (Swing /Dance Captain), Annie Get Your Gun (Winnie Tate u/s), Cats (Victoria), Footloose (Swing) and The Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
She has also been seen in these national tours: Annie Get Your Gun (Winnie Tate), Cats (Swing/ Dance Captain), and Sesame Street Live (Elmo).
Regional productions include Cinderella, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Alice), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Oklahoma (Dream Laurie).
Carolyn has had the honor of working with many award-winning directors and choreographers such as Kathleen Marshall, Susan Stroman, Jeff Calhoun, Graciela Daniele, Rob Ashford, Jason Moore, and Edward Villella.
She has performed alongside some of Broadway’s finest; Bernadette Peters, the late Rebecca Luker, Sutton Foster, Kelli O’Hara, Brian Darcy James, and Donna Murphy, as well as shared the stage with a host of other celebrities including Harry Connick Jr., Reba McEntire, Brooke Shields, Marilu Henner, Tom Wopat, and Eric McCormick.
She has been the associate choreographer on many musicals such as Seussical, Hot Mikado, Beauty and the Beast, and West Side Story to name a few. She has received numerous awards for her choreography including being nominated for “Choreographer of the Year†with Star Dance Alliance as well as multiple nominations for the Industry Dance Awards.
It was in College Station, Texas where Carolyn began her training as a gymnast/dancer. Soon realizing that ballet was her real passion, she went on to train at the Houston Ballet Academy in Houston, Texas, the Cornish Institute of Fine Arts in Seattle, Washington, as well as with the Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle, Washington. Carolyn received a full scholarship to the University of Arizona and holds a BFA in Ballet/Modern dance, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
Since 1999, Carolyn has been teaching master classes and inspiring young actors, singers, and dancers from across the country. In 2007, she was asked to join the faculty at the Joffrey Institute of Ballet in New York City, New York. She was the head of the Musical Theatre program for the 1st annual Jazz and Contemporary Dance Summer Intensive.
Carolyn has also worked closely with Broadway Classroom of New York City. With Broadway Classroom, students would attend a master class with Carolyn and learn original choreography from the Broadway show she was currently performing in. She would also work on improvisation, a scene, or a performance of a song, and students would receive constructive feedback from her.
Carolyn has been an adjudicator for multiple dance competitions such as Backstage, Starbound, and Revel. She has been a dance instructor in upstate New York for the past 10 years. During this time, she has had the pleasure of having some of her students go onto many prestigious dance performance jobs.
Just a few are the first national tour of the Tony Award-winning Broadway show Moulin Rouge, performer on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, apprenticeships with multiple ballet companies, and scholarships to the University of Michigan, Penn State University, University of Buffalo, and George Mason University.
Carolyn Ockert-Haythe is a 21-year member of the Actor’s Equity Association and has been Equity Deputy and a passionate fundraiser/coordinator for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. She is also a member of AGVA and SAG-AFTRA.
